Yesterday marked the beginning of the Alphabet Adventures challenge which I introduced in my ‘Sacking the Fun Police..” post a week or so ago. This is a an exercise in lightening up, reconnecting with my inner child, having FUN and learning to belly laugh again. As with many chronic illnesses or traumatic experiences in one’s life, CFS took away my ability to truly let go, to be in the moment and to laugh so hard it hurt (in part because that took too much energy). That was then. 2013 is the year of the belly laugh, mark my words.
So I propose that everyone join in on this activity. It will be guaranteed fun, remembering it doesn’t need to take a lot of effort. Not every activity has to be side-splittingly funny, it just needs to get you out and about engaging with life, being in the moment and freeing yourselves up from daily pressures. I have copied the instructions from my previous posts below so there’s NO excuse to claim ignorance!
Alphabet Adventures – B
Because of the nature or our ‘B’ activity yesterday we decided it would be a better idea to kick off with B and finish off with A. I think you’ll understand why in a minute. For B we went to Bounce, “the free-jumping revolution” and we bounced, laughed, bounced, fell over and laughed an awful lot more. It was hilarious! There were challenges and somersaults and tears and sooo much laughter. I was most certainly the oldest jumper in the entire complex but that was all part of the fun. I don’t need to say much more, I’ll just show you the photos.
Alphabet Adventures – A
As I said, we cheated a little by starting with B but we needed to in order to knock two letters over in a weekend. As a result of recovery I knew my body wouldn’t take too much more excitement in one day so A needed to be subdued and relaxing. In any case it was such a lovely outing and something I don’t do enough of. That is, just lying idly in a park with gorgeous friends. I certainly barely ever eat a burger (gluten free of course) and I rarely drink (alcohol) so this was an exercise in mixing things up. Without further ado I introduce our A activity, demonstrating that not a whole lot of effort has to go into these alphabet activities but that the simple things can truly make your day. Please read the caption for explanation!
What you will need: a friend or partner happy to commit to upping the ‘fun portion’ of your lives.
What you will be doing: you have between now and the end of December 2013 to take in turns and work your way through the alphabet, selecting a suprise activity starting with the next letter that both of you can enjoy together – it doesn’t have to be something that is (literally) hilarious, it simply needs to be an activity that helps propel you into ‘life’. I’ll help you along here. Let’s say you had R. It could be anything as simple as swimming in the rain (tho’ some may argue that’s not much fun…but I bet you’d laugh!) or jumping on bikes and going for a ride (assuming that is something you maybe don’t already do..and having a picnic because that’d be lovely) or rolling down some massive grassy hill or sand dune – so many options! It doesn’t have to cost much (if anything) and you can have so much fun getting creative. Our plan is to leave it as a suprise until the very last minute. We’ve agreed that the person organising is allowed to invite one extra friend and that you have to take a photo proving your activity. I have B and have already come up with our activity for Sunday week – which I do think will generate a lot of laughter.
This is what I propose: Every time Lucy and I carry out an activity I am going to write a quick post with a photo of what we’ve been up to, corresponding with that letter. What I’d love you to do is get involved and send me the photos of your A-Z activities and I’ll post them all together at the end of every month. Imagine how much enjoyment we would get out of inspiring each other to have FUN – not to mention the healthy creative competition that would ensue! So flick your photo proof to firstname.lastname@example.org and don’t forget to tag your instagram photos #alphabetadventures
Let’s go and have some FUN!
